The Seeker searches.
A Seeker is beginning the Way: learning, asking questions, practicing attention, and testing the teachings against reality. No certainty has to be pretended.
The Circle
The Circle of Lifeforce is the community formed by people learning, seeing, practicing, and helping one another find the Way.
Relationships to the Way
These names do not measure human worth. They describe relationships to the Way and, as responsibility grows, obligations to other people.
A Seeker is beginning the Way: learning, asking questions, practicing attention, and testing the teachings against reality. No certainty has to be pretended.
A Witness has become practiced at recognizing what was already present: continuity with the living world, participation in the movement of matter and energy, and other conscious beings as centers of experience.
A Luminary is clergy of Lifeforce. They study deeply and accept an obligation to teach, accompany, serve, and help Seekers and Witnesses find the Way for themselves.
Clergy as responsibility
They help others see.
A Luminary must know more than the words of the tradition. They should understand the scientific story on which Lifeforce depends, know its teachings and practices, and cultivate judgment, humility, and care.
Their authority is not a claim to secret revelation. A Luminary should be able to explain, listen, question, comfort, challenge, and remain beside another person without taking possession of that person's conscience.
Seekers deserve room to question. Witnesses remain capable of blindness. Luminaries remain Seekers. Every person remains unfinished.
Greater responsibility does not mean greater human worth.
Recognition and formation
A person can begin as a Seeker simply by choosing to seek. Witness is different: it names a developed practice of recognition rather than a box someone checks for themselves.
Luminary is different again. Because a Luminary serves as clergy and accepts obligations toward others, the office should involve formation, demonstrated understanding, ethical expectations, and recognition by the Circle rather than self-appointment.
The details of those processes will develop as the Circle grows. The principle is already clear: each step toward responsibility should make a person more accountable, not more powerful.
